As we age, independence starts at home—but safety is non-negotiable. In this episode of Next Steps 4 Seniors: Conversations on Aging, Wendy Jones sits down with Dr. Bryan Forton, physical therapist and founder of Elevate Mobile Physical Therapy, to talk mobility, recovery, and practical ways to age safely in place. From adjusting bed height to installing handrails, Bryan shares smart, proactive solutions that keep you moving—and out of the ER.
We’re talking real-life modifications, HSA-eligible services, and why that bedside stepstool might be your worst enemy. Whether you’re recovering from surgery or just tired of tripping over your throw rug, this one’s for you.
A Letter from Dr. Bryan to His Patients
“I have been in the Physical Therapy field since 2013. I graduated from Oakland University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences Pre-PT, Minor in Exercise Science. From there I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan in 2018. My interest in Physical Therapy has stemmed from a lifelong passion of health and fitness.
I’m grateful to be able to live and work in the Macomb and Oakland County areas, where I can learn and grow by providing the best physical therapy care available. I strive to be my best self, and enjoy sharing my skills and knowledge with those around me. I’m energized by building relationships with others and helping my patients reach their functional goals to improve their quality of life.
Throughout my years as a Clinical Physical Therapist, I realized that there was an unmet need for the aging populations and those with disabilities. Individuals, family members, and friends needed support negotiating the struggles that come with different disabilities.
As a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy, I have the clinical experience providing interventions to the full spectrum of ages (from pediatrics to geriatrics) and disorders (from acute, chronic, congenital, traumatic, and progressive) in the settings of outpatient therapy, home health therapy, and subacute rehabilitation. With a background in construction industries, knowledge of ADA guidelines, assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and community services available, I understand the needs and support available for an individual’s unique situation.
By providing supplemental personalized Home Health and Community Based Therapies, along with Comprehensive Assessments and Consultation Services (through AdaPTive Mobility Solutions), individuals would become empowered to maximize quality of life and ability to successfully age.
